Morphophysiological Acclimation of Developed and Senescing Beech Leaves to Different Light Conditions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Common beech is a shade-tolerant tree species that can adapt to varying light intensities at the level of whole plants, crown fragments, and individual leaves. The acclimation abilities morphological, physiological, biochemical characteristics leaves were experimentally determined in crowns for different levels availability. About 24% higher length, width, area about 35% thickness recorded sun compared with shade Lower earlier maximum leaf pigment levels, faster degradation pigments during senescence, chlorophyll a/b ratio observed fully sun-grown growing deeper canopy. Changes intensity oxidative stress differential ability developing senescing defend against this effect under conditions determined. This resulted redox imbalance senescence outer parts crowns. Due ascorbic acid glutathione content slower activity loss antioxidative enzymes involved superoxide anion hydrogen peroxide decomposition, better control over balance, stress, induction was noted

Light absorption by anthocyanins in juvenile, stressed, and senescing leaves

The optical properties of leaves from five species, Norway maple (Acer platanoides L.), cotoneaster (Cotoneaster alaunica Golite), hazel (Corylus avellana L.), Siberian dogwood (Cornus alba L.), and Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia (L.) Planch.), differing in pigment composition and at different stages of ontogenesis, were studied. Anthocyanin absorption maxima in vivo, as estimate...

Proteases of Senescing Oat Leaves

Two proteases isolated from senescent oat (Avens saiva) leaves have been subjected to further study. One of these, an acid protease active at pH 4.2, is inhibited by phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) but not by iodoacetamide (lAc). The other, active at pH 6.6, is inhibited by both PMSF and IAc. These results, together with previously reported evidence that mercaptoethanol stimulates the acti...

Nitrogen partitioning in the photosynthetic apparatus of Plantago asiatica leaves grown under different temperature and light conditions: similarities and differences between temperature and light acclimation.

Effects of growth temperature and irradiance on nitrogen partitioning among photosynthetic components were studied. Plantago asiatica was grown under different temperature and light conditions. Growth conditions were regulated such that the Chl a/b ratio in leaves grown at a low temperature with a low irradiance was similar to that in leaves grown at a high temperature with a high irradiance, s...

Acclimation of shade-developed leaves on saplings exposed to late-season canopy gaps.

We hypothesized that photoinhibition of shade-developed leaves of deciduous hardwood saplings would limit their ability to acclimate photosynthetically to increased irradiance, and we predicted that shade-tolerant sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.) would be more susceptible to photoinhibition than intermediately shade-tolerant red oak (Quercus rubra L.). After four weeks in a canopy gap, photo...

Partial purification and characterization of endoproteinases from senescing barley leaves.

Two major endoproteinases were purified from senescing primary barley leaves. The major enzyme (EP(1)) appeared to be a thiol proteinase and accounted for about 85% of the total proteolytic activity measured in vitro. This proteinase was purified 5,800-fold and had a molecular weight of 28,300. It was highly unstable in the absence of dithiothreitol or at a pH greater than 7.5. Leupeptin, at a ...
